Via dei Mulini Positano...kissed continuously by the sun.

Positano, which lies between three valleys called Pértuso, Comune and Paipo, was founded by the inhabitants of Paestum who had lied from their homes, sacked by invaders. In the year 1000 it became the seat of a Benedictine abbey, which for many years kept the population in a state of indescribable poverty, until they rebelled and started Positano onpicturesque steps its road to prosperity by setting up one of the biggest shipyards in the area.

During its period of economic splendor Positano belonged to various nobles, among whom were Alfonso il Magnanimo, Blanch Marquis of Oliveto, and other powerful men of the time. Its decline began in the eighteenth century, and culminated in the desertion of the town by a large number of its inhabitants.

Among Positano's architectural features are three outer towers built for protection by Viceroy Don Pietro of Toledo, and five inner towers of great historical interest. Also worthy of note are the Church of Santa Maria Characteristic view of Positano: from beach Assunta and the beautiful Roman villa, in which the visitor re-lives the pomp and grandeur of Ancient Rome.

Positano also has several gardens, and all in all is to be considered one of the most interesting places for the tourist on the Amalfi coast.It is exceptionally tranquil, and, more important still, Nature there is still Nature.
Besides being one of the most famous and most elegant localities on the Amalfi coast, Positano is especially popular with artists from all over the world.

They appreciate its houses, the majority white, clustering in picturesque confusion on the seaward slope of a steep hill. Many painters, indeed, have come to Positano to stay for a few days and remained there for the rest of their lives.

While completely retaining its old-world fishing village charm, Positano is also very well equipped to cater for tourists from all countries.
